OTC's Touring Challenge was designed to be the ultimate test of there but they all sell the process short through some component of subjective criteria. Other motorsports venues that try to do the same, but lack the duration, environment, and sheer track time to fully distinguish a winner. Using our format, OTC Touring Challenge has become the benchmark in street car competition.
|
||
|
To compete in the Touring Challenge: 1. You must drive
the car from track to track. Each car will be given roughly two hours of track time at each venue to lay down its three best laps. Those three laps are then added together and your cumulative time is your score for that day. As soon as you have three laps that you are happy with, you are free to begin traveling to the next venue.

Made this very informative web site. |

Flushed the Dexcool crap out of the radiator. Replaced it with distilled water and a few bottles of Water Wetter. Made a pretty pink color. Took an air saw to the nose of the car. Cut a 4x11" hole. Stuck in a naca duct and ran more 3" silicon hose right to the rotors. You can't have enough cooling. Changed oil. Noticed a 2x3" hole in the right header where the hanger bracket used to be. Need to get to a muffler shop and get that plugged up. Brake pad sets and Hardbar camber plates should be here by Thursday. |
||
| April 5, 2004 - | 'Finished' the brake ducting. Need to fit the tires and check for clearances. Then safety wire and silicone everything tight. | ||
| April 7, 2004 - | Still no word from my teammate on where the wheels are tires are. Getting sketched. | ||

Seems that CCW is out of material to build wheels. Looks like 'we' (tim)
waited to long to order them.. heh. So, I want to give a huge thanks to eric (emf) over at High Speed Driving.com for bailing us out by letting us borrow his wheels. I had driven with eric a few times, but technically just met him 2 weeks ago at Spring Mountain. Another tech geek / racer guy willing to help a brother out. Thanks again man and hope to see you in OTC next year. Brake pads and camber plates should be here today.

Camber plates are in. Awesome design. I'll have pics up as
soon as I can. These plates fit perfectly into the slots where the
cam bolts went. There's no way they will move. Locked camber in at
about -2 degrees. Gave me 2" toe in too.. heh.. I've adjusted toe
front and rear about 5 times. I think I'm at 0-1/16" out in front
and maybe 1/8" in rear. Definitely need to readjust when we get to
the track with the different wheels. Tim says tires (pilots 335/18 and 315/18) will be here by Wed. One can only hope. Brake pads didn't show. Looking for tracking number now. Header brackets welded back on. Car no longer sounds like a chugging ford station wagon. Great muffler shop on la habra blvd if you're ever in town.

ACTUALLY WASHED CAR. Please make a note of this days since it won't
happen again until at least another 6 months have passed. All
washing it does is help to show off the chunks of paint that are missing
from all the rock chips and track debris. Maybe now the stickers will stick.

Brake pads came in. Thanks Gary. Test fitted the wheels.
Fronts look good. Rears rub on the inner wheel well. We called
John at CCW and may need custom spacers and longer wheel studs. It's
always something.

Dropped of wheels with tim to get first set of tires mounted. Definitely need longer wheel studs. Sucks. Gotta pull the whole knuckle off the car to get at the back of the hub. 3 hours?
|
||
| April 14, 2004 - |
Well now I've done it. Both rear knuckles are completely out of the
car 2 days before we have to leave. I have to pull the hubs out of
the knuckles and replace all the studs. Shouldn't be too hard to do.
But hey, it wouldn't be OTC if your car is ready more than a day before
the start. Oh! We may have picked up some more 'real' sponsors. CA$H is good! Now we can afford gas for the trip.

Today's update is the EXACT same one as yesterday's, except there is only
1 day left now. Got stuck at work late last night. No progress on
car. Jack brought up the 'r' word on the OTC board.. it may come into play. Let's hope not. Connection at the house is back up, so I can post pics soon. Taxes aren't done either. Anyone see a pattern?

Rear end went back together pretty easily. The car is packed
up like its moving day. I think everything is ready to go. Heading out to Vegas in about 4 hours. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Weather report says the only day to worry about it WSIR.
